Court Orders Clergy Sexual Abuse Records Made Public
On July 27th, 2018, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered that Report I of the 40th Statewide Investigating Grand Jury be released to the public. Contained within Report I of the 40th Statewide Investigating Grand Jury — the full report can be read here — are details of decades of horrendous sexual abuse committed by members of the clergy and cover-ups of the abuse committed by diocesan leadership. The Grand Jury heard testimony from dozens of witnesses and reviewed over half a million pages of documents before finding that more than 1,000 children — at a minimum — were sexually abused by more than 300 perpetrators.
Survivors of sexual abuse committed in these institutions may finally find relief in the near future as the Pennsylvania legislature is considering legislation that will allow civil lawsuits previously barred by the passage of time to be brought against sexual predators. Survivors are currently preparing for this new legislation and White Law PLLC is prepared to help hold abusers accountable today.
